Brian Tracy Success: Double Productivity
In Brian Tracy’s Podcast entitled “21 Great Ways To Double Your Productivity - Number 11”, Brian speaks about “Practicing Single-Handling Key Tasks.”
Dale Carnegie, one of the richest men in the world, attributed much of his success, and the success of those working with him, to this one success technique. That’s a pretty lofty claim.
But to put even more weight on this topic, Brian Tracy says that a person can boost his productivity by up to 50% on the very first day of using this technique. I think that’s worth listening to, don’t you?
What is Single-Handling Key Tasks?
Basically, it’s choosing the most important task you have to complete and working on it (without distraction) until it’s done. Brian Tracy breaks it into three steps:
1. Make a list of everything you have to do
2. Select the most important item (highest use of your time) on your list
3. Start work on the most important task and discipline yourself to stay at it until it is 100% complete.
Two Keys of Success
According to Brian Tracy, by Single-Handling Key Tasks you’ll be using the two keys of success:
1. Focus
2. Concentration
The Benefits of Single-Handling Key Tasks
Brian Tracy says that single-mindedly without diversion or distraction will contribute more to your success than any other habit you will ever develop. Wow!
He claims that when you have to lay a task aside and come back to it later, you increase the amount of time required to complete the task by 500% (or 5 times). But putting tasks aside is precisely what most of us do. Mostly we get too distracted.
On the other hand, if we can learn to discipline ourselves to stick with a task until it is complete, we’ll decrease the amount of time needed to finish a task by as much as 80%. This secret alone leads Brian Tracy pronounce this as “one of the great secrets of time management and high productivity.”
The best thing is that this is a habit you can learn by repetition and practice. Keep doing it until you get it down. Perfect practice makes perfect.
And most importantly, the two major payoffs:
1. You’ll quickly become one of the most valuable and highly paid people in your field.
2. You’ll get an endorphin rush by completing your major tasks. This rush will give you a feeling of well-being, happiness, and your self-esteem will increase.
Brian Tracy reveals one of the great secrets of success: Single-Handling Key Tasks. Make it one of your success goals.
